Here's a corollary: If a someone points a gun at a police officer and that officer shoots the person, killing them, but it turns out afterward the gun was fake, or not loaded, the officer is not guilty of lying or any wrongdoing.

Saddam pointed a gun at the world, he did this, as stated below, knowing full well what the reaction would be. The story states it was a risk he was willing to take because he expected a Clinton-style bombing attack on key sites. His gun wasn't loaded, he took the chance, and he lost.

There's a lot this president has done wrong, but this story makes it clear, attacking Iraq wasn't one of them.

“For him, it was critical that he was seen as still the strong, defiant Saddam. He thought that (faking having the weapons) would prevent the Iranians from reinvading Iraq,” Piro told Scott Pelley of “60 Minutes.”
Piro added that Saddam had the intention of restarting an Iraqi weapons program at the time, and had engineers available for chemical, biological and nuclear weapons.

You Can't Offset Guilt...

I'm not sure I have yet heard it put so succinctly, "climate guilt". At the core of it, that is really the issue. Liberals feel guilty for their success. Actually, they feel guilty because they aren't willing to give up the success. So, they talk the good talk about helping others, but when they aren't willing to give up their lifestyles to do it, they feel bad inside. Thus the guilt.
